A Letter from NOD President Carol Glazer

NOD President Carol GlazerOctober 1 marks the beginning of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time every year when we at NOD step back and look at the big picture of disability employment in the United States. Last October, NOD released a survey regarding the barriers that stand between people with disabilities and career development. This year we want to congratulate businesses that are making great strides in correcting these inequalities, beginning with our CEO Council members.

The companies in NOD's CEO Council are breaking new ground in inclusion and innovative employment practices. They are embracing disability as an aspect of diversity, and seeking out job candidates with disabilities, including veterans of war. They have creative accommodations and supportive groups in place for employees with disabilities. They also strive to offer equal opportunities for advancement to their employees with disabilities.

Businesses in the CEO Council help to advance NOD's mission by supporting our innovative employment programs, which then effect change in disability employment policy and practice. Likewise, NOD gives CEO Council members the opportunity to increase their diversity efforts, offering onsite consultations to create workplaces that are welcoming to everyone.

On behalf of NOD and the disability community, I offer my most sincere gratitude for these companies' foresight in recognizing the incredible talents offered by the 33 million working-age Americans with disabilities:

Thank you for being part of this important work.

Carol Glazer
President
