As a Tax Manager at PwC, I manage numerous work streams for compliance and consulting projects in the financial services industry. With each project, I develop relationships with other professionals and leaders, cultivating leadership and teaming best practices. My team has grown in size by nearly six times since the time I joined, and I demonstrate consistent ability to develop disruptive solutions for our technical tax processes on a national level.
I also cannot walk and can barely lift my arms, as I suffer from a severe neuromuscular disability known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). This condition confines me to the use of a powered wheelchair. I cannot dress or bathe myself. I require assistance getting up each morning and going to bed each night. But despite these difficulties, I have achieved success by nearly any measure. Over the last seven years, I have built expertise in banking tax provisions, cryptocurrency, hedge and private equity tax compliance, and tax deal structuring, serving a wide range of clients in the financial services industry.
I’m grateful to work at a place where, when my colleagues look at me, they don’t see my wheelchair. They see a leader. A change agent. Robert Rusch Tax Manager, PwC
I am always excited to share my experiences with others who may be facing similar challenges to those I face, and helping them identify paths to achieve their goals. It is an honor to be an asset to PwC as a professional, as well as to its culture as an individual. I take great pride in remaining positive and being a leader at the company, no matter the challenges. And, I’m grateful to work at a place where, when my colleagues look at me, they don’t see my wheelchair. They see a leader. A change agent. And, someone who is sincere, passionate, and effective.
